A home for families
As a young couple raising three children aged three to nine, Mr Toh Soon Heng, 46, and his wife, Mdm Rachel Ong, 42, welcomed the addition of a new playground at Blk 540 Serangoon North Ave 4.
“The new playground looks vibrant and has many elements for my children to play with,” said Mdm Ong, who has lived in the neighbourhood since 2009. Mr Toh also shared that there are a lot of young families in the neighbourhood, so facilities like the playground allow these families to bond together.
The playground is part of the recently completed Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP) in Serangoon North Ave 3/4. Other new facilities include covered linkways, drop-off points, void deck gyms, fitness corners, sheltered pavilions and a jogging path.
The couple, who also enjoy indoor gardening, are pleased to see the community garden near Blk 547 being upgraded. “The community garden provides a space for residents to enjoy leisure activities while interacting with each other,” said Mr Toh.
Mdm Ong is excited about the gym equipment being built at the void deck. “The indoor gym will allow us to exercise regardless of rain or shine. There is an outdoor fitness corner near our block, but we can come here to maintain our exercise routines when it rains,” she said.
Their mother, Mdm Soh May May, 67, who stays with them on weekends, also likes the indoor gym. “It has exercise equipment such as the step up station, the arm cycle and the cross trainer, which are suitable for the elderly like me,” she said. She also likes the new jogging track where her grandchildren can play with their e-scooters.
Splashing family fun
After much anticipation, the new aquatic-themed playground at Buangkok Square Park was launched on 9 March.
Ms Christine Neo, 29, who lives in Seletar Hills, is excited about the opening of the playground. “My children love playing with water. Sometimes I take them to Serangoon Gardens Country Club to swim and play, but it's a bit far. With this new water playground nearby, I can bring them here next time,” she said.
The playground consists of two play areas for children aged two to five and six to 12. Kids can play with the many water features, including a spray tunnel and a mini splash bucket.
Ms Ng Ling Ling, who takes charge of Jalan Kayu ward, hosted the soft launch opening of the play area. She said: “I am really happy to see many parents and children gathering here to enjoy this facility. As we strive to build a family-friendly nation, there will be more interactive recreational facilities for our families to enjoy.”
Resident Mr Wilson Chan, 38, said: “The playground provides an alternative for children with swimming phobia to engage in watersports.” Another resident, Mr Paramasivam, 36, also said that the new playground provides a meeting place for parents to make new friends.
The water playground is open to the public daily from 8am to 8pm. Come with your little ones to enjoy the splash and cool off from the heat!
