Mr Bryce Chia is a firm believer that children learn best outside the confines of the house, where they can engage in activities beyond books and television programmes. “I can’t wait to bring my son to a playground to run around, sweat it out and interact with other kids,” said the 38-year-old engineer. 

Mr Chia will have something to look forward to in the neighbourhood, as a multi-generation playground between Blocks 616 and 617 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 is in the works. It is part of Yio Chu Kang Green’s Neighbourhood Renewal Programme and is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of next year.

“My wife and I are probably going to spend many evenings with our son at the playground when it is ready, especially because the location is very convenient for us,” added the resident of Block 618.

Madam Yuslina Mahmood, 68, who stays at Block 617, also cheers the multi-generation playground. The housewife feels that such facilities in the neighbourhood help to strengthen bonds between generations. 

She said: “Instead of just watching cartoons in the living room, my grandchildren will have something else to do when they visit on weekends.

When completed, the inclusive play space, which includes a wheelchair-accessible see-saw and swing, will be a gathering space for residents of all ages and abilities. A new sheltered ramp will also be built near the playground to enhance the connectivity between blocks.

Smiling, Mdm Yuslina said: “This means more residents can benefit and enjoy themselves at the playground, including those using wheelchairs. It will be a nice place for seniors like us to step out and enjoy the fresh air.”
