Well done if you know all the answers! For those who are not familiar, allow us to introduce you to the history of the town council.

In December 1984, Mr Lim Boon Heng, Mr S. Chandra Das and Dr S. Vasoo, the then Members of Parliament (MPs) for Kebun Baru, Chong Boon and Bo Wen respectively, came up with the idea of setting up town councils aimed at changing the way housing estates were managed. Under this management style, public housing estates could develop their own distinctive character according to local conditions and give residents a stronger sense of ownership and identity.

In September 1986, the first town councils – Ang Mo Kio West, Ang Mo Kio East and Ang Mo Kio South – were established in Ang Mo Kio’s new town. During the trial period, some of the maintenance and management works carried out by the first three town councils included installing ceiling fans at the hawker centres, replacing footpaths, creating more carpark spaces, and new landscaping projects. 

Following the successful pilot town council project in Ang Mo Kio, the government passed the Town Council Act in 1988 to pave the way for the full implementation of town council concept in Singapore. Today, Ang Mo Kio Town Council (AMKTC) manages the HDB estates in Ang Mo Kio GRC, Yio Chu Kang SMC and Kebun Baru SMC through four offices and one service centre, with the main office at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1.

To keep pace with the times, AMKTC also navigates into a digital transformation journey by providing online services to residents, such as the booking of bulky-item removal service, receiving updates on S&CC with SMS or email alerts, and engaging residents through its social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Telegram.

市镇理事会的概念在1984年由林文兴先生（时任哥本峇鲁区国会议员）、詹达斯先生（S. Chandra Das，时任崇文区国会议员）和华素博士（Dr S. Vasoo，时任博文区国会议员）提出，1986年9月在宏茂桥试行，旨在让居民参与并提出改善组屋区环境和设施的意见，加强他们的归属感。当时设立了宏茂桥东、宏茂桥西和宏茂桥南三个市镇会办事处。如今，宏茂桥市镇会设有四个办事处和一间服务中心，负责宏茂桥集选区、杨厝港单选区和哥本峇鲁单选区的组屋区公共地方的管理与维修事务。随着数码时代的到来，宏茂桥市镇会也与时俱进，为居民提供线上预订大型物件清除服务、通过手机简讯或电邮获取杂费通知等数码服务。

Majlis bandaran pertama ditubuhkan di Ang Mo Kio pada September 1986. Konsep ini dicetuskan Encik Lim Boon Heng, Encik S. Chandra Das dan Dr S. Vasoo, masing-masing Anggota Parlimen bagi Kebun Baru, Chong Boon dan Bo Wen pada ketika itu, untuk menangani isu-isu pengurusan dan penyenggaraan kawasan umum di estet-estet HDB. Kini, Majlis Bandaran Ang Mo Kio menguruskan estet-estet HDB di GRC Ang Mo Kio, SMC Yio Chu Kang dan SMC Kebun Baru, menerusi empat pejabat dan satu pusat servis, bersama-sama pejabat utamanya di Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1.

முதல் நகர மன்றம் 1 செப்டம்பர் 1986 அன்று அங் மோ கியோவில் அமைக்கப்பட்டது. இந்த யோசனையை முன்வைத்தவர்கள் திரு லிம் பூன் ஹெங், திரு எஸ். சந்திரதாஸ், டாக்டர் எஸ். வாசு ஆகியோர். இவர்கள் முறையே கெபுன் பாரு, சொங் பூன், போ வென் தொகுதிகளின் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களாக இருந்தனர். வீடமைப்பு வளர்ச்சிக் கழகக் குடியிருப்புப் பேட்டைகளின் பொது இடங்களின் நிர்வாகம், பராமரிப்பு ஆகியவற்றைக் கையாளுவதற்காக நகர மன்றம் அமைக்கப்பட்டது. இன்று, அங் மோ கியோ குழுத்தொகுதி, இயோ சூ காங் தனித்தொகுதி, கெபுன் பாரு தனித்தொகுதி ஆகியவற்றிலுள்ள வீடமைப்பு வளர்ச்சிக் கழகக் குடியிருப்புப் பேட்டைகளை நான்கு அலுவலகங்கள், ஒரு சேவை நிலையம் ஆகியவற்றுடன் அங் மோ கியோ நகர மன்றம் நிர்வகிக்கிறது. தலைமை அலுவலகம் அங் மோ கியோ அவென்யூ 1ல் அமைந்துள்ளது.
